KAREN GASPARINI MARTIN

My career stems from a lifelong love of art that lead me to pursue my education at Indiana University Fine Arts Program as well as the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design (MIAD). I show and sell my work primarily through smaller galleries, commissions, and donate to charities. In the past, I have also sold my art with different homes at the request of the homebuyer.

Although I work primarily in abstract work, I also have painted and sold several paintings of “things people can recognize.” I create by diving into the color, patterns, textures, and rhythms that I see in nature. I may add the elements of collage, glass beads, gold leaf or other mixed media to enhance the movement and essence of the painting. This organic approach to painting connects me to the nature of “being” while still inviting others to think in a more layered and provoking way.

I often begin placing colors and textures on a canvas, allowing the markings of paint guide me throughout the development of the work. Over the years I have learned to trust this process of creating and believe this gift of painting gives me the opportunity to be the vehicle of this expression. My modest role as a painter is to be the instrument for the movements and energies which create each piece.

I feel the “work” speaks and means something different to each person who views it. I believe art is a universal language that inspires a higher quality of life through the exploration of creativity. My goal is to create a compelling work of abstract art that engages the viewer.

My art has been exhibited and commissioned in Southeast Florida, Delafield, Mequon and Thiensville.
